So.. im new to the posting world. but personally i dont see why we are looking for a new coach when for the last 3 out of 5 yrs we have been in the playoffs. Matt Burnett is still producing and still in my opinion teaching and motivating kids year after year. It couldnt be easy to produce year after year and much respect is deserved untill he has decided to retire or fail to produce. I know that if we so called community talk so bad about this coach im sure as you all have previously said that other schools would love to have a man like Burnett come in and produce winners.(Just as yall said of other coaches wanting to leave) I know he would never EVER back out on his players but as its sad to see some people easily backing out on him. I like to believe that he is a knowledgable, experienced enough coach that when he fails to produce he knows his time. You talk so happily of another man to some in PNG and replicate and do better than this current head coach.... good luck with that. He is a rarity in my opinion many, many schools in Texas would like to have what he has accomplished and still is.It would be a shame to see this man go. I am pretty sure this thread is just small talk, but i dont necessarily like purple and white fans to cut down our head chief. I look forward to this year with our offense looking to dominate. Losing all of our hard nose defense from last year, I am happy to see the new men fighting and working all this summer to fill in those spots. Tatum will now be in his 3rd year under center and a great talent at that, and i look for him to finally connect with his recievers consistently. Last year it posed him (and i know it takes recievers to catch the ball to) a little problem to be consistent every game, but i am pretty sure that his maturity should prevail and hopefully he and wright can help carry our team to another successful year behind Burnett....Just my two cents....Any thoughts?

The only problems anyone has really had are predicability and, as Burnett himself told the papers, lack of preparation. We're all hoping for better things this year. I really don't want to drudge last year's arguments up again unless we have the same ol' same ol' again.

You'll find that, although just about everyone bleeds serious purple here, many are not "homers".

Also, what's his record against Nederland? You wouldn't believe how many people from Nederland said that they'd take one loss every five years just to keep him in charge over here. I hope we beat Nederland again this year. This is one area I LOVE to to proven wrong.

I'm pretty sure Owen's last season was in 4A. If I remember correctly that was part of the reasoning of replacing him with Coach Burnett... people were really concerned how ugly 5A would be under Owens direction.

I just read through this post and caught this line. I wasn't there, but to my knowledge, concern for 5A had nothing to do with Owen's departure. All I will say is that it had everything to do with indiscretion. If you're not reading between the lines here, PM me.

I agree pngfan 93 that i hope we come prepared and ready. And agreed that I would love to beat Nederland. I think that Burnett and his staff are ready to coach this kids up, starting today and they will have the kids at top notch come first district game.

I know or at least heard about the indiscretion part. But his last year was a disaster on the field. indianman... most of this is small talk, just people kicking around their 2 cents. Like I said before I don't think Coach Burnett is going anywhere and we need to support who we have right now. There just isn't much to talk about until the season starts, so this gives people a chance to talk about something.

Just my two cents, but I think outside of Neumann, Hooks, Barbay, Stewart, Stump, all of which are set and not leaving... the best option I see is Blake Morrison from Orangefield. He does a pretty good job over there competing with kids similar to the PNG kids, just don't have the numbers at OF... but I think he would fluorish at a Ned or PNG type of program.

I agree that matt has done a great job, but i also agree that when the time comes, the program needs a jump start. I think we are in the same boat as Penn State. What you see is what you get. Joe Paterno legendary, but time for a change. I think in the next 5-10 years our program should take on the strengths our kids have year to year with the flexibility to change if those strengths are not what they were the previous. Adaptability may be the single most important aspect at PNG to propel us into the next 5-10 years. We have one of the best commitments from a community and support for any single high school program in the state and nation. I think if you dream big (like this stadium we have now), you will create a new chapter in PNG football. I'm excited about this year and can not wait to talk more football. GO INDIANS GOOD LUCK AT JASPER
