I understand that not many people on this board place much confidence in the MaxPrep ranking system. However, today MaxP dropped SOC to #6 in 5A-2 from the #1 position the school has held all season. Dopped their rating score as well. Now PN-G is #3. Notwithstanding the general lack of confidence in MaxP, has something good (for pn-g) occurred at soc?

SOC is coasting in their weaker district.
They will be fresh and freer of injuries.
They will demolish weak teams but I think this year a team could surprise them because they haven't been battle tested.

Besides playing 2 top 25 teams in 6A D1, and a fringe top 25 6A. But that was awhile ago

Exactly, what adjustments have they needed to make? What weakness have been exposed? Etc.
How much have they really grown?
Answer, we shall see. They are well coached and hungry to win but have lost the last two. Why?

My clinic is in the North Shore / Galena Park district
Which I recently discovered is open enrollment
Which explains why Galena Park is so terrible

North Shore has definitely figured it out, but man… I wish I could beat a 6A D1 contender and say my 5A D2 school was having a down year

There is a sizeable talent gap between SOC, Richmond Randle, and Iowa Colony vs. all the other teams in 5A-DII. Last year, RR had more overall talent than SOC. I'm not convinced of that this year. SOC has strong DI talent on defense. MLB Jamarion Philips, CB Mikail Trotter, two monster DTs, and a few others. On offense, SOC has another giant OL with two RBs that are quick and fast. Not big RBs, but fast like Fort Bend's Marshall's Devon Achane. If they hit the corner on PN-G, the Indians don't have anyone on our roster that can catch them. I'd like for someone to catch SOC coasting in the first three rounds of the playoffs and knock them out, but SOC has good coaches. We might not like Coach Todd, but he has a good staff. RR still has a big OL and all-world RB Landen Williams-Callis. RR can match up with SOC size-wise and talent-wise on both sides of the ball. Plus, RR has speed on the back end to run down the SOC run game. Iowa Colony has a ton of talent, too. The RR and Iowa Colony game was a shootout. RR and Iowa Colony are now 5A-D1 or 6A schools based on numbers. The Richmond and Highway 288 areas toward Angleton are growing like crazy. I would put PN-G at the 4 or 5 spot. The Indians could play with anyone else in 5A-DII. Coach Joseph would squeeze the clock and use PN-G's strengths to wear down all the others. SOC, RR, and Iowa Colony would be huge challenges. Anything could happen, and I would support my PN-G Indians until the very end, but I wouldn't complain if someone knocked off SOC in a game where the Golden Bears were sleep walking.

This. All season long I've had us at #4 or 5 in the state, in 5A-D2. SOC, RR and IC are at different levels. I'm not sure RR will beat SOC again if they meet again in Dallas.
But, of course, who knows? Maybe Montgomery will knock them off.

I agree about the weak district games. SOC hasn't surrendered a point in 6 district games. Strength of schedule plays a big role in the MaxP rankings. Longview lost last weekend. Maybe the MaxP computer finally recognized the weak schedule. Just wondered if injuries, suspensions, etc. could have been factors in the SOC drop. Apparently not.

Record and strength of schedule. PN-G and Montgomery have a significantly higher strength rating than SOC. But, they are also ranking Lake Creek at #25 with a higher strength of schedule than either PNG or Montgomery. Go figure…
