I'm pretty sure Woods is starting on JV to begin the year.

With heat in the early five games will need depth/subs. Fatigue on the field is when injuries occur. PNG WRs Running sprints until opponent DBs start cramping up.

Number #21 in the scrimmage was #80 last year. Tyce Benkert. He played WR and RB in the scrimmage.

The PN-G offense is not lacking at all in skill players. Nor in depth at those positions. If/when Ashworth can dial in his passing, the multiple threats of the QB run, Tyson Henry, and a stable of good receivers will be lethal. The offensive line may not be huge and dominant as in past seasons, but they should be able to maintain a block for a few seconds for the play to develop. The defense will be another solid McDaniel unit.

All high school linemen miss an occasional block. Jackson Christian and Aaron Wolford missed blocks at times. That’s partly due to the speed and quickness of an opponent, the defensive scheme and identifying your blocks during live action, and just knowing the darn plays. I’ve yet to see a perfect high school lineman.

And that’s why an agile, smart lineman that knows his playbook, and has situational awareness is so important. Give me that over an extra 50 pounds of weight and 6” of height.

I recall a certain 2A lineman years ago that was huge. Maybe 6-5 350. He looked intimidating, albeit overweight and unconditioned, and he thought he was a bad dude. But his opponents in the big game literally fired off the ball and ran around him all night. Of course if you have all the attributes, including size, then that’s an advantage. But size on its own is not everything.

If you watch the Ennis game the PNG two HB/TEs were getting to the second level and flattening LBs and CBs that resulted in long TD runs. PNG is fortunate to have both HB/TEs returning this year.

I will take the under sized 1975 OL coached by Butch Troy any day. They were able to handle the big Houston schools of Houston Yates and Houston Wheatley at the time with huge Defensive fronts that went on two play college and had NFL careers. Add in an Odessa Permian of Friday Night Lights.

That 1975 OL resulted in PNG being ranked third nationally at the end of the season. I don’t believe any of those under sized 1975 PNG OL received Division 1 college offers. Troy coached them to perform as a synchronized unit.
