2026 Baseball

14-3 overall after first two district games. This year the district is composed of 3 very good teams, including PNG, one good team, and 4 poor teams. Thus, district play will largely involve getting prepared for the playoffs and getting the best playoff seed possible, hopefully the top seed!
 
Boys take tough 2-0 loss to a good Baytown Sterling team for their first loss in district and a split with Sterling. Will have to beat one or both of the top teams one (or hopefully both) times to make up for it. Also, hopefully Sterling can give one of those teams a loss or two.
 
Indians drop game 2 to BH 8-1. DC and second place to be decided by how Nederland does in their 2 games against BH next week and how we do against Nederland the last 2 games of the season.

Nederland is undefeated in district play and only has 3 losses on the season. However, they have not played BH or PNG. BH was probably the clear favorite to win district, and we did manage a split against BH. So I feel fairly confident we can at least manage a split against Nederland. However, given the current standings we will probably need a sweep against them for a shot at a co-championship, as well as needing BH to lose one or more games of two to Nederland and/or Sterling. A PNG sweep of the dogs, along with a Nederland sweep of BH, would result in a co-championship with Nederland (but I think it would give us the top seed). A PNG sweep of the dogs and a Nederland split with BH would result in a three way tie for first unless BH gets upset in one of it’s 2 games against Sterling, in which case we are probably once again the top seed. A BH sweep of Nederland, along with a PNG sweep or split with Nederland would result in a DC for BH unless BH gets upset in one or more of it’s 2 games against Sterling (not at all likely but certainly possible-Sterling did unfortunately split with us). So at this point we still have a mathematical shot at the top seed without having to sweep Nederland, but the odds are very much against it.

Nederland takes game 1 over BH 5-4. Our best chance for a DC involves a Nederland sweep of BH followed by a PNG sweep of Nederland. Not an easy task by any means, but probably the combination of outcomes we need.
