We got straight whipped in the 2nd half. Might have been the hardest half of football to watch in the Jospeh era, unfortunately. Defense looked like Swiss cheese and offense couldn’t block. They just bullied us on both sides of the ball in the 2nd half. Was hard to watch honestly. Hoping our kids learn from this beat down and really turn it on during district. If not we may be one and done come playoffs.

I could see PNG winning the next 6. I can see what they are trying to do, This being a new concept with many new players maybe after getting it right we will still have a good season. Playing these type of preseason game will toughen you up and show you what you have to do to be the best you can be. Season will start now against Santa Fe.

No doubt they’ll improve. And probably win the next 7. But I hope they remember how these losses felt. I hope no payer on the team feels overly confident about a win or performance going forward. To heck with points and yards. And forget about setting individual records. Because the bar to win against strong teams like Brenham is high. 6 weeks of actual improvement in performance and fundamental football is necessary to have a chance in the playoffs. Block, tackle, run harder, throw better, catch the ball, and don’t commit stupid penalties and mistakes. The record could have easily been 3-1 right now with more of that. Brenham was the only team that flat out won the matchups.

Yes, #27 played, but when the game was out of reach in the third and fourth quarters, he was pulled and the backups played.

In another post, someone asked whether there was a running clock. No. Once the score reached 38-14 and then 45-14, both teams shortened the game by running the ball and letting the play clock wind down before snapping the ball. Brenham picked up first downs (and TDs) on basic handoffs to its running backs. The clock moves quickly when teams play that way.

I'm not sure the Indians can count on any district game as an automatic win. The 2022-2025 PN-G Indians are not walking through the door. Their offensive and defensive lines have been overmatched. Aside from #4 and #97, who will hit you with some thump, too many players rely on arm tackles. You are not bringing down Brenham's 205-pound running backs with arm tackles. During the bye week, line up in the Oklahoma Drill (aka Shotgun Alley) and get back to blocking and tackling.

On to Santa Fe. I'll be there next week rooting on the purple and white Indians! GO INDIANS!!!

I am starting to think this is going to be the yr that this is a rebuilding yr for PNG imo. We are way too small this yr imo.

Too many seniors to consider it a rebuild. There are 6 weeks to improve as much as possible. Then we see where the chips fall.

There are some very good players on this team.

I honestly STILL think this is the most talented PNG team in the Joesph era at least at the skill positions and secondary problem being PNG has lost it’s identity in the trenches hopefully just for now.On to other good news though I believe Argyle AND Brenham both have more than enough to potentially take out SOC

We don’t have the personnel (IMHO) to run the offensive scheme we run
I’m not a fan of the read option offense I feel like sometimes it works in spite of itself if you have amazing OL and QB especially
To me you lose a player
I say just line up the QB and run him or pass (as an alternative to read option) because the QB and RB are working on the same plane of momentum
As opposed to deep back formation the QB and RB are in actual opposite vectors or at least perpendicular for instance a play action enables things like bootlegs etc or counter plays

There’s almost no counter option in the RO one exception is our Gohlke back pass jet sweep (more like a wing T sweep)
With our lack of size in the OL we need way more counter movement
Right now we have all the disadvantages of the 40s VEER (sp?) offense but less of the advantages

Our defense looks amazing for the first quarter or half but maybe due to fatigue we lose control (not sure)
I didn’t feel too bad about the Crawford loss until Nederland beats them on the road (uh oh)
We have a very good gain percentage with counter and the H back sneaking out of the backfield
I’m not doubting one of the best if not the best coaching team in HS I’m still believing here.

All of this is a spot on assessment, I couldn’t agree more. They’ve got to change the scheme up compared to years past. Watch the old De la Salle videos on YouTube and how the offensive line worked in that veer offense. It’s a thing of beauty, they need to mimic that IMO
