FINAL: Indians 27, Bulldogs 24

I was glad to see the NDN Press pay tribute on the broadcast to Michael Benson, who passed away this year. I haven't seen Mike in over 30 years, but I will never forget what a sweet and gentle person he was. He knew I was an Indian fan, but he always had a big, friendly smile whenever we met. He was a fixture at Nederland games for many years, and he loved the Dogs with all his heart. May he rest in peace.

Good game Indians...several things i know for sure after tonight Jude Gohlke is a heck of a football player the double digit win that was guaranteed didn't happen and I don't see mid county madness happening in the 4th round neither team is good enough to get there right now...I do wish the Indians luck the rest of the way
I missed on the double digit margin. The better team won tonight, but it was a hard fought game. PNG will be in the 4th round of the playoffs playing somebody.

Me too I've always known him as Benny and known him for almost 30 years I've had my own issues with speech and mobility but Benny was a reminder and testament to overcoming challenges a never quit attitude and the love the Nederland Bulldogs he will be missed..Thank you to the Port Neches and Groves community for paying tribute to him

Disappointing to hear.
Yeah, it’s a fun song to play musically and Mr Wells tried letting our band play it a few times over the years, with STRICT instructions NOT to sing the “chant” but our student section and quite a few fans didn’t get the memo so he “retired” that one…probably for good! I mean, I’m far from a fuddy duddy, but it’s just inappropriate, especially at HIGH SCHOOL games…not quite sure why Nederland hasn’t stopped playing it but to each their own.

Since Jeff Joseph arrived, PN-G is 15-2 in games decided by 7 points or less.

The big story of this game is not the close OT win. It's the resilient comeback from being down 0-14 and outscoring the opponent 27-10 through the final 2 1/2 quarters of the game. Nederland came in on a mission, fired their best shots, grabbed a lead, but it wasn't enough on this night.

They boo’d the cheerleaders, the band loudly when they walked in front, and then sang LSU’s version of Neck, screaming “Suck on that bulldog D***k, Bi***!” Great school culture…
Wasn't familiar with that song so looked it up. The music is cool if that's what you like. But not the lyrics. Adult Nederland fans sing those lyrics? I would expect the Nederland admin, band director and fans to have higher standards. Oh well... 4-0. On to the next district game.

Some fans joined in but it was mostly the student section! Like I said previously, our band has played it a FEW times over the years and I know students were instructed NOT to sing the chant but did anyway so it has been “retired”…probably FOR GOOD!
