If a student-athlete has the option to go to a bigger name school with a full ride it would make sense to do so. Many companies target specific schools for recruiting, and these are often bigger schools because it allows them to view more candidates during recruiting visits. Upon graduation the student will then be affiliated with a larger alumni base which opens up more opportunities. Just the way the world works.

Depends on the student. And once you're into your career, you're judged by your accomplishments, not the school.

you may get that job or the faster track because your diploma says &*&* but in the end the cream always rises.that degree doesnt run the company a person does and at the end of the day a savy business owner doesnt care where you went to school.if they do then there fools and we wonder why corporate america is in shambles.

I am an honors program graduate from Lamar. The education I received from there is 1st rate. I have a friend that graduated from the McComb Honors Business college at UT. We compared tests and learning objectives from our finance classes. We used the same textbooks and he said that the things Lamar was doing with their program were not being done at UT. Lamar engages the students in hands-on learning. Class sizes are smaller and it allows for more professor/student interaction. He says that by looking at the things I learned at Lamar, he could only wish that he had the same opportunity at UT. Now, take that for what you will, but I feel that students that choose to go to Lamar are going to get a great education. A lot of people "knock it" because it is a local university, but it is becoming a more respected university every year.

Oh, and for those professors that you can tell stories on...I'm sure every school has their share of those. You shouldn't discredit a school based on the reputation of a couple of professors.

A B.A. or B.S. is exactly that, no matter where you go to school. I much prefer the bill from the Lamar than the one from SFA and I can only imagine what UT or A & M tuition cost - at this point, my daughter won't emerge from Lamar oweing on student loans. If it becomes harder for us to pay, then we will think about a loan.

I have three degrees from LU (a B.S. and 2 M.Ed.s), and I'm one of the youngest at my level of advancement around. Also consider that I was late getting into the field.
