That is why I think in all honesty we need to schedule some tough opponents in the first couple of weeks of the season to get us ready for the tough part of the district and get us ready for the playoffs.

Klein Oak is a 6A playoff team and LaPorte is undefeated in there 5A D1 district that is not a cakewalk. Not sure we can benefit from playing the Katy's and North Shores of the state.

It DEFINITELY seems like we’ve been playing not to LOSE all season! Is it just me, or does anyone else think the coaches seem a bit “detached” from the players on the sideline this year? I know McDaniel was always actively coaching, keeping them motivated, and VERY VOCAL with encouragement or “constructive criticism” if necessary cause I could hear him from the 17th row when he got really FIRED UP…lol! But, I haven’t noticed the same level of involvement or intensity from him and a lot of the coaches this year. Seems like when this sort of “vibe” started happening in the past, it had a lot to do with PARENTS complaining about playing time, or the coaches being too “aggressive” and hurting their kids “feelings”! I sure HOPE that’s not the case because PNG has lost some really good coaches over the years because of that nonsense!!

This is not the case at all. The coaches are constantly coaching. Just because you don't hear cursing on the 17th row does not mean they are not engaged.

PN-G has a tremendous coaching staff. They are working hard every week to put the team in a winning position and help the players improve their play. In no way is this fan giving up or attempting to be overly critical. We watch the game and we see good and bad execution. But even top college and pro teams struggle at times with executing.

Fact is even last year was filled with close games. They all went PN-G’s way. Last week it didn’t. But it could have easily been a win. Just need to improve a few things and success is there to be continued.

Losing Coach McCrary and Coach Feller have hurt this team tremendously. Not just in playcalling but sideline intensity (Feller). The offensive play design this season has been vanilla, and that’s being nice. Hugh school defenses aren’t that complex. If your route concepts are relegated to a rollout stick concept (when the QB can’t throw on the run) or a twins look witg with a drag and a deep over…you may need to return to middle school coaching.

Another thing I’m seeing, they’re not playing the best kids, and that’s concerning. You’d think this staff would figure out a way to get Eli Washington on the field. You can’t teach speed and he’s got all of it. Still can’t figure out why Davis Freeman doesn’t get play at LB, he’s physical as hell and has that mean streak. J Jerry should be in the RB rotation too. I’m hoping this isn’t a daddy ball thing but if I can see it from the stands, I’m sure most of you can also.

No intent to derail the concerns, but the reasons why some players don’t play a lot can be complex. That can range from not being able to remember plays or follow instructions, having an attitude problem, or just not being able to reliably execute. Or maybe they are just not considered the best option. Coaches see the players every day and know who gives the team the best chance of success on the field. In most cases it should be worked out without fanfare. But as a fan in the stands it’s impossible not to speculate.

Well said. This is schoolboy football and these kids are students, and the coaches are educators. Grades must be passing. Classroom attendance (as well as football practice and Saturday team meeting attendance) is required. and etc etc etc ...
I heard a head coach in another part of the state once, in a discussion with a group of guys talking about their jobs, say that his job security depended upon 16-18 year old kids, and that everyone in town thought that they could do his job better than him.

What does this have to do with scheme and route concepts?

I hope these "problems" aren't the reason why Caden Naquin #25 didn't play last week. He excelled during his two games before Nederland, rushing for 200+ yards in one of them.

No names were mentioned or implied, and does not necessarily apply to anyone. A generic statement that's been true since kids have been playing sports. And someone will always feel slighted on playing time. All human nature.

I wouldn't want to be a coach. Especially dealing with helicopter parents. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

+1
Coach Joseph is a good coach. The team I'm sure has moved on to the handling of Montgomery tomorrow night. Let's hope that Huntsville does the same with Nederland.
