If we can keep this game close I have a strong feeling we can win,All Thigh kids are hearing right now is how much they will beat us by no one is considering us a challenge! So if the fans show up and they game stays close TH will get rattled and frustrated causing mistakes and outbursts we’ve seen it 100 times before!

Well sad thing is that’s what they are doing besides a small group there whole TH page is just bashing PNG and continuously saying we have no chance sad part is most of them are parents. "State Champions Advantage" = we don't let the chatter affect our focus on what's most important.

And nothing we have ever said here is anything that the players and coaches don’t already know. They know better than we do how they can improve. Every good team on the planet, including NFL teams, watches game film, and works to improve their play each week.

You very very right I’m just saying when every single person around you especially parents are saying you’re gonna beat this team by 40 you start to believe it therefore throwing you off and making you comfortable, So if we can catch the off guard we can win!

Boy …. they sure you have some of you worked up. It must be part of some PNG fans pregame psych routine. I was not even aware of Texarkana Friday Nights Lights FaceBook page. Texas High fans for the most part do not post. There is a game thread on Smoaky.com. Most of the Texas High posters are civil and knowledgeable. One thing I have noticed, both PNG & Texas High fans believe in their team as they should. From A Tiger perspective, this is the best team we have had since we won state in 2002. But the Tigers have had some scares along the way and managed to pull out a win. Our recent playoff history has taught us that you can’t take any team for granted. On paper, Texas High should be the favorite. But the game won’t be played on paper and who knows how it will play out. I think their are 6 teams with reasonable expectations of a state championship and two play Friday out of state.

Some of the Texas High fans are a little raw. But every community has people who take these games personal. I am sure there are some PNG fans who are in that camp also. However, both schools have many, many fans who don't live or die by the succes or failure of their sports team. You need to look no further than "ACE" and "border town" to know how to dicuss High School footbal without getting all worked up. These two fans are a small sample of what makes up the greater Texas High fan base.

I see nothing wrong with making good natured fun of an opposing team. That has been going on forever and will continue to go on. I havent seen any of the TH deragatory remorks and they don't affect me what soever. If you can't take the heat you need to get out of the kitchen.

Lets have a good game and pray that none of these young men get injured.

You picked the right playoff game to miss! It was windy (30+ mph), wet and cold. Worst weather I ever sat through for a football game. My girlfriend left at halftime and sat in the car (with the heater on) for the rest of the game. We won 9-7 with the only scores occurring when the teams had the wind at their backs. Mark Buchanan punted 10 times with an average of 15 yards per punt. And that included a 58 yard punt with the wind at his back!

Another interesting note is how what turned out to be the winning field goal was accomplished. The regular snapper Jim Bob Helduser was out because of a sprained ankle he suffered in the 2nd quarter. Kirk Romero replaced him for the PAT, but snapped the extra point try over the kicker's head and the score remained 6-0. Texas City then turned the ball over at their 12, which eventually resulted in a 31-yd field goal attempt. Coach Ethridge asked Helduser if he could snap the ball for the field goal and he said yes. Helduser then had to quickly get the tape off his ankle and his shoe back on. He executed a perfect snap and the kick was good. Amazingly, it was the first varsity field goal by Rick Vaught. Texas City scored on a 48 yard TD run in the 3rd quarter, but we held on for the 9-7 victory!

Ricky was my roommate at A&M and he had that ball he won the game with and we were passing it around and punting it in the apartment parking lot, I punted it and it landed on top of the apartments but he said he didn't care. It's probably still on the roof at the Pearl Apartments on George Bush Dr E College Station, drove by it on Monday going to the ATM on Dominik.

RIP Jim Bob, it was awesome you coached at Texas A&M.

HaHa…our younger fans are mainly the ones who get psyched up about opposing fans smack talk cause most of them grew up on social media so it’s just how they engage and get info now! That stuff doesn’t bother us “old schoolers” much because we don’t even know what they’re saying half the time since it’s mostly a bunch of slang gibberish NONSENSE…lol! Plus, it could be hazardous to our health if we get too worked up!!

QB Potter is obviously good but he has a slow throwing motion. Might become a factor if the rush can get back there quickly enough.

Indian fan, this is a very good and interesting stance. However, I believe #2 Gino Ramirez will do a fantastic job in coverage this week, as he has all season.

We’ve seen and heard it all here. This is one of the longest running high school sites in the state. Dedicated to PNG sports going on 25 years. We like to talk football but can smack down knuckleheads when necessary and yes we are quick to defend. Appreciate your sportsmanship Bordertown.

Ryan Mallett. Kid had an incredible arm. He use to stand between the 45 & 50 in pregame and throw the ball through the uprights to psych out opponents. At a quarterback camp he threw the ball 80+ yards. One of the recruiting experts thought there must have been a wind and asked him for a private throwing and again he threw it 80+ yards. He started for Arkansas and backed up Brady at New England. His fall from grace in the NFL was missing a team flight for the Texans. Sadly died a year ago in a drowning accident.

Potter cannot throw it 80 yards, but he can throw a deep ball. He has thrown 31 touchdowns which ties Mallet’s single season record.

Football as a sport tends to lean toward trash talk
Anything I’ve said about Texas High or Texarkana is always with love in my heart
Several generations worth
(To anyone who misinterprets) nothing I wouldn’t say in front of my TXK homies and family
But I can see how my sharp and rambling tongue could be taken wrong haha

I have deep roots there including all the other High Schools’ history
On Fridays and Saturdays most of my day is watching (or rewatching PNG THS PG and LE games (every week)

as long as we have #45 Winfrey carrying our defense this year we should have no problems reaching state. I feel #4 Wuenschel is very overrated and takes attention away from the real star Winfrey.
