IndianFan

pngindians.com
Here's a list of the top 30 scoring teams in PNG history. Sorted by points scored per game. Points allowed are included for perspective of defensive context. Note that the 2019 team ranks 28th out of 95 teams.

Note the inclusion of the 1971 team in the top 3. That was Jeff Bergeron's junior season and a team that ran the Wishbone.

File this under the interesting category. The 2024 team is averaging 44.7 points per game so far. That's on a pace to challenge the 2017 team which was Roschon's junior season. Granted there have been some weak opponents but that's typical and the Indians HAVE NOT run the scores up. In several cases they would have scored many more points if the first team had been left in the game. Point is, this is a very good, and still improving offensive team led by a powerful offensive line.

True point. PNG could have really ran the score up on Splendora and WF, but Coach Joseph wanted to avoid a needless injury and allow the back ups to get some playing time (they did well). Montgomery hung 59 points on WF last week. I haven't seen any stats, but how many of those points were scored by starters?

Thanks for taking the time. Love stats. More impressive in week 11. Klein Oak has made the 6A playoffs as the third seed but the top two seeds are 7-1 and were both defeated by Klein Oak. La Porte is the 5AD1 district winner going undefeated after their loss to PNG.

Ordered by PPG (points per game) average. One of 3 teams to crack 40+ per game.

Of course the leader was the Roschon Johnson led offense in 2017. A year we could have won state with a bit better defense.

Don't get me wrong, I love offense and putting up 40+ points per game, but the more impressive stat to me is the 2025 PN-G Defense only gave up 15.9 points per game. In 2025, with teams spreading the field, running all types of offenses, and throwing the ball all over the yard, the PN-G defense only gave up 15.9 points per game. You could play live games against the PN-G JV and Freshman teams and they are likely to put up two scores. In 2025, to hold varsity teams to an average of 15.9 points, that's a top-notch defense. Take a bow, Matt McDaniel. Your defense kicked some ass in 2025. Take a bow, OC Gizzi, your offense lit up the scoreboards! Great coaches, great kids! GO INDIANS!
