Scoreboard improvements

My understanding is it's being moved to the other end of the stadium. They're just adding a full color video board to the top and a small amber board to the bottom. And of course the structure to hold it and the advertising signs.

thanks...I had read at one time somewhere on one of these topics that we were just discarding what Total had given us. I may have also misread it. But it is good to know that we are still using it and just adding to it.

The small amber board was also part of the previous scoreboard. It is all being reused. If you look at the picture I posted, you can pick out the old parts of it.

Drove by today and they are starting to put the old part of the new scoreboard up. Also saw some stirrings on the home side of the stadium couldn't tell what, but it looked like they are setting some steel maybe for the base of the new stands. Also field was completely covered in what looked like a white rock like substance, things are starting to move.

Not to sound dumb, but what is the rock for? To make the ground harder? ??? No, does that help with drainage or something?

Probably a crushed stone base to provide a level surface and good drainage.

The district has selected a great turf product.

FieldTurf's patented system is the first choice for elite athletic venues worldwide: Seattle Seahawks, Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers, New York Jets and Giants, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, St. Louis Rams, and New England Patriots to name a few. 21 out of the NFL's 32 teams play and/or practice on FieldTurf. In addition, more than 50 NCAA installations, including Ohio State, Nebraska, Kansas State, Oregon, Oregon State, Syracuse, Washington and Washington State.

Too cool. As a comparison, the new Indian Stadium scoreboard blows away $20M+ Berry Stadium's board. It's going o be an incredible experience playing in and watching games in that stadium. ;D

While this all very nice and I am proud of the improvements, I do have a question for all of you. Do any of you care about the fact that we are WWAAAAAYYYY over budget on the Bond? Do you care to know why we are overbudget? Go ask a School Board member, if you can find one that will answer your question. I have heard many different figures of the overbudget amount but I will list the most current figure as of Thursday $12 million!!!! There will be NO improvements to the Softball or Baseball fields( part of the Bond ) due to being over budget. But who really cares, right. As long as we have the football stadium and scoreboard - it doesn't matter if we don't get any of the other things that were in the bond proposal or rather that we do get the other things that were in the proposal, just make them the substandard version of the original.

I dont know how many times it has been said but the scoreboard was NOT part of the bond money...separate deal.

The other projects arent the only ones being altered due to being overbudget, it was talked about on this site months ago that the football stadium design was changed as well.

Are you stating fact or is this just here say. You say you have heard many different figures, so how do you know which one to believe? By the way, yes, i would like to know why. Can you tell us?

I know the scoreboard was not part of the bond nor was it purchased with bond money, however, who takes that kind of money from the general fund when you have huge projects about to begin with the possibility of problems, it was irresponsible in my opinion.

How do you go over budget with a contract that states "not to exceed"? How is that done again? The alterations were a down grade from what was proposed, not an upgrade....

No, it is a fact that we are over budget. Not just hear say. If I could pin point the exact reason, I would be happy to tell you. I am trying to figure out, with all the cuts that are being made to other projects and a contract with H. B Nield and Sons that states "not to a exceed" a certain amount, how in the hell we are over budget. I wish someone would state it in public to stop all the speculation, I guess it is none of our business, just our money. I have officially heard $12 million. At first I heard $2 million, this was about a month ago and that was from a district employee who is directly involved in all that is going on with the bond.

so if a big company or rich alumni that wants to donate money to the PNG football program, they are suppost to say "no, thats irresponsible"?? come on.

as far as the other issues go, when the bond was voted on and passed noone in their right mind could have known gas would jump to an avg of $4 a gallon causing prices for supplies to skyrocket at a record pace. The price of concrete and steel is outragous right now. They dont have any other choice but to cut cost and its happening across the board, including the football stadium. I dont see what your argument is, they cant just quit working on it. If the stadium would have been later on in the schedule it probably would have been scaled back even more but thats the breaks.

Very true that costs are sky rocketing in all segments. Inflation, weak dollar, crippling energy costs, credit crisis... It's all coming together in a perfect economic storm that is a huge challenge. Price increases are passed along to the consumer.

PNGISD isn't the only district that's struggling. Cy-Fair ISD is on the verge of bankruptcy because of various factors.

It wasn't donated - the original version was a partial donation, FEMA money and insurance money - the modifications were purchased with money from the general fund. Whatever, I am tired of talking about the frickin scoreboard - I really don't care anymore. Forget it.

The cost of everything has gone up, yes I understand that - and money was built into the bond to as contingency in case that happened - I believe it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 30% - So the question remains, are we over budget and over the contingent amount, even with the cut backs? How and why?

All reports from the Board and Construction Manager state that everything is just hunky dorie!!!!!

If the baseball, softball, and tennis facilities are being cut, all involved should have a grand 'ol time explaining how everything was fine when they announce the cuts.
