Next Game: PNG vs Texas High

Something to remember about Nederland. The Bulldogs had a 4+ hour bus ride to that game. The Tigers had a thirty minute drive or less from the house. Very different than this situation where both teams will be making a 2-3 hour trip.

FINAL: LaPorte 55, Barbers Hill 28

Had a feeling early in the season that win would look even better on PN-G’s resume as the season went on.

    PN-G Indians 42, Kaufman Lions 21

If there were any doubts about the abilities and the potential of this year's PN-G team, they should have been settled last night. We ran 9-1 during the regular season this year, winning the district title in arguably the state's toughest 5ADII district and scoring major wins over very talented...

    Hallsville at PN-G 11-15-2024 Round 1.

Those kinds of trips are an unavoidable necessity out there, though. The 6A Lubbock schools are in the same district as the 6A Midland-Odessa schools. When I went to see Permian play at home last year, they were hosting Lubbock-area Frenship for a district game. It’s unavoidable in West Texas...

    Hallsville at PN-G 11-15-2024 Round 1.

Kind of nestled away on Highway 80 north of IH-20, if I recall correctly. Had to drive through one morning about two years ago on my way from a hotel in Longview to a meeting in Marshall. Knew a few folks who lived there at the time. Friendly people. Unfortunately, my memory of it will always...

    Nederland 24, PN-G 21

Made it to the game last night. Ran late, because I left Austin later than I’d hoped. (Politics happened.) Got there about halfway through the second quarter. I’m most frustrated by the penalties. Yes, it’s a big rivalry game. But we’re also eight games into the season at this point and faced...

Might be some crossover in there, as I believe both numbers account for shared titles (i.e., co-champs two and three ways). So, may be less than 53% of the time accounting for years the two teams shared the championship.

Really appreciate you putting the stats side by side like that. You don’t realize how comparable the two programs are until you see that. But the stats also make clear PN-G has had the historical edge, especially in the playoffs.

I will never forget watching Pearland Dawson roll out a Baby Grand piano and a solo booth, both mounted on carts, for the area competition in 2009.

    District 8-5A Standings - Week 9

I said on a certain other messageboard last night that one should never underestimate the Montgomery County sense of entitlement. I will add here today that one should never underestimate Montgomery County overconfidence, either. There’s not a lot of experience overcoming real adversity in that...

    PN-G Indians 37, West Fork Gators 0

Glad the defense preserved the shutout. West Fork (who I keep wanting to call Wake Forrest) may not do the best job of running the Wing-T, but it’s still a run-heavy offense that uses a lot of misdirection and trickery. Good for the defense to get that experience early in the season, and to get...

Broadcast crew threw the site a nice shoutout at the start of the tape, IndianFan. Also, can hear Cherokee loud and clear on the field mic tonight. The livestream is reminiscent of the old VHS video on YouTube of the final drive against Schertz Clemens at Kyle Field in 1999. Squaw would be proud.

High school football rivalries in America: Vote for the best

Rest assured that the Legislature will not be making any changes to high school football team names any time soon, and neither will the UIL so long as the Legislature has something to say about it.

High school football rivalries in America: Vote for the best

The difference is that they don't show up at PN-G games. They show up for tons of games in D-FW and its environs, a fair number of Houston-area and Central Texas games, and the occassional game in West, East, or South Texas, but have never made a trip to the Golden Triangle at all, to my...

Like the historical intro video for football games, this is one of those things I think would make a great summer project for some section leaders in the band.

    District 8-5A Standings and Scores

In a perfect world, the UIL would reserve all three sites and assign the state championship locations based on which of the three sites is the most equidistant from the two schools competing and has the lowest total travel cost for all involved. Of course, that will never happen.

To riff off of one of my prior posts, Joseph tends to show more of the playbook as we get deeper into the playoffs.

PN-G Wins the Battle of the Bands - October 12, 2024

Battle of the Bridges, I believe. It’s not part of the UIL marching competition structure. It’s an independent marching festival. But I’m not surprised PN-G won it, and I believe this is the second or third time in the last five or six years.

PN-G INDIANS FOOTBALL

I could not be more proud of our team and our community. The spirit here is unmatched! I am so lucky to be a part of it and to wear the purple and white! The journey of this football season, with these coaches and our players, will stay with me forever.  -- PN-G Head Coach Jeff Joseph
