Did you know that Drew Breese spent his child hood summers with his grandpaw at G-P during 2 a days on the G-P practice fields! His Grandpaw Ray Akins was the coach at G-P. And Marty Akins was a 3 time all american QB for Texas. He led G-P to its only state championship game in 1971. Only to lose by 1 point. Just a little info!

Chuck Norris used to watch PNG practice when he was a young buck. I can't find the quote but it was something along the lines of "Those days watching the Port Neches Groves Indians practice were a great inspiration to me as a young child. I modeled my work ethic after that team and swore to be as tough and as relentless as the Indians." Something along those lines.

Zing!!!

One upped.

;)

Seriously though that is pretty cool.

IT SURE WAS NEAT havining a pro qb come to the highschool game. He went into the fieldhouse prior to the game and gave the boys a pre game speach and got the boys pumped before they took the field! It was a special treat! How many higschool kids can say that a Active NFL QB came to their highschool and gave them a pregame peptalk prior to taking the field! Simply awesome!!!!!!!

Pretty cool when you have a current NFL coach delivering game time messages on the stadium jumbotron too. Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips was an all-district linebacker for the Indians back when his dad Bum Phillips was head coach at PN-G.
He's usually too busy to attend high school games though.

I don't yet have a photo of Wade Phillips on the Indian Jumbotron, but this was when he gave a message during MCM 2008 in Nederland after Hurricane Ike came through.

I really don't care who the G-P people have pictures of, or who goes to their games--unless Drew Brees and the saints are playing for G-P this saturday--it's going to be a long bus ride home for them!! ;D

Earl Thomas, former West Orange-Starks, University Of Texas Safety and the #12 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks was at Mid County Madness last year.
