New Caney very good this year.
Then Argyle maybe best team in this division
Then Barbers Hill that’s a tough off district schedule

Montgomery’s 2022 DCTF Preview

2022 Preview

Coach: John Bolfing. Lettermen R/L: 18/30.

Starters returning O/D: 2/5. 2021: 11-1 area finalist/6-0 district. Key losses: Jalen Washington (Sam Houston State).

Players to watch: WR Justin Herman (5-8, 175, 4.7), DB Mason White (6-1, 180, 4.7), DB Kyler Wilson (5-9, 160, 4.7), WR Jaden Williams (5-10, 170, 4.6), RB/DE Louie Adams (5-9, 165, 4.7), RB Ryder Adler (5-10, 170, 4.6). Top junior: OL Cooper Hydock (6-2, 270). Top sophomore: QB Reggie Williams (5-7, 170, 4.6).

Other prospects: OL Jeron Persky, CB Korbin Ballenger, LB Bryce Hurta, LB Mason Chapman, OL Alex Acosta, DE Colby Gelske.

2022 notes: The Bears had a huge 2021 season, posting their most wins in a single season since 2010 and earning a district title, however much of that group was lost to graduation. Only two starters are back on the offensive side of the ball, led by WR Herman (68-952, 13 TDs receiving) who is a menace in the slot and has great hands. He’ll team with WR Williams (26-346, 6 TDs receiving) to give the Bears a great 1-2 combo in the passing game, but the big question will be youth on the offensive line and at quarterback. The strength of the Montgomery defense is in the secondary with the return of White (103 tackles, 1 INT) and Wilson (55 tackles, 2 INTs) in the backfield. Bolfing says inexperience in the trenches on both sides of the ball will be a concern.

You looked at Austin LBJ?
They beat EECHS (East Side Early College HS), whoever they are, 96-0. WTH beats another HS team 96-0? Especially in the same town. Well, they beat Liberal Arts and Science Academy 89-0. But they lost to Parish Episcopal 44-21. Good for Parish Episcopal.

Came close last time we met FBM in the playoffs: If we make it that far hopefully we can do it this year. We are way better than we were the first time we met them this year.

Of the seven blowouts LBJ has won, only two of them were over teams with winning records. Their two losses are to two of the four teams with winning records that they’ve played. Keep in mind that they only played a nine game regular season schedule.

Yes, LBJ is an athletic, talented team, but it’s also a relatively untested team that won a district title in the easiest district in the state. Should LBJ meet PN-G in the second round of the next playoffs, ours will be the best defense they’ve seen, at least since the start of district play.

In sum, they’re not as tough as they look.

Great analysis.

You never know. Montgomery was considered a tough opponent last season with their record and ranking. But they were relatively weak compared to the Indians and our district in general. If that meeting does eventually happen, LBJ could be a similar situation. But the defense has to really play disciplined football against any team with a good running back.

~almost~ anyone can beat anyone (some are no contest)

But in well matched games either team can win (Nederland game) we were one mistake or non converted 3rd or 4th down from losing for real and they should have never been in the game at all
But we definitely have a chance to make it to region and a chance to win region and at that point with a healthy team we have a chance against Liberty Hill then Argyle
